“…an architecture of honesty… is about stepping into the open and expressing the simple and the actual rather than the grand and the ostentatious.”  ~  Samuel Mockbee

The honesty and human focus of “Truth to Materials,” whether in architecture or in making a pot, speaks to me in a deep way. Working with clay allows me to participate in a conversation that is both personal and social. It is grounded by the body. What begins in my hands will find its way into the hands of an other. The very nature of this interaction fosters a human connection and larger sense of community. The process of creating each piece and a series of work is, itself, another kind of conversation. Form, color, light, surface and pattern are my building blocks. Working with raku is a touchstone to the interplay between intention and magical transformation that continues to inspire and inform my work in stoneware.
